Different ideologies can exist within the borders of those who can compassionately represent a congress or coming together of reasonable minds.

Yet, what happens when discussion is not promoted, but reason is exchanged for degradation ...and name-calling and nonsense prevail?

Let's look at the nation of China.  Defined by its borders, those who are considered natives or inhabitants of China are called Chinese.  Nearing the mid-1900's, civil war took on the identity of Nationalists vs Communists.  It has been said that the Nationalists, under the direction of Chiang Kai-Shek, did not satisfy enough of the interest groups.  It has also been said that the Communists, under the direction of Mao, told the peasants exactly what they wanted to hear.

The Communists prevailed, and what followed was 40-70 million deaths through starvation, forced labor, and executions.  It is estimated that 3 million were tortured to death.

Surfing the internet for whatever version you believe, it is overwhelmingly agreed that whatever you personally believe to be true ...there were two very different ideologies and approaches towards realizing dreams and aspirations.

It may also be duly noted that one person's dreams may be another's nightmare.

That aside, one historian has assessed the past in view of today's China, stating that it may presently be closer to Chiang's vision than Mao's.
